The unpardonable sin

Opening song
Closing song
Scripture reading:     Matth 12: 14-32

12:14   Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.
  12:15   But when Jesus knew [it], he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
12:16   And charged them that they should not make him known:
12:17   That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
12:18   Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall show judgment to the Gentiles.
12:19   He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.
12:20   A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.
12:21   And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
12:22   Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
12:23   And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
12:24   But when the Pharisees heard [it], they said, This [fellow] doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
12:25   And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
12:26   And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
12:27   And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast [them] out? therefore they shall be your judges.
12:28   But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
12:29   Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
12:30   He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
12:31   Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy [against] the [Holy] Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
12:32   And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the [world] to come.

intro
We come to a very interesting part of our study. This is where we now make an application of what we have learned.

We have from our last 2 studies looked at what sin is. We established that sin can only be imputed when we know something to be right and ignore it (james 4:17) and we also established that sin lies at the door of the person who does not express faith towards the word of God (rom 14:23)

But why is it important to know what sin is? It becomes important because ther is a asin that we can commit that cannot be forgiven.

The big question is. Have I gone over that threshold?  Have I committed the unpardonable sin, and if not how far am I away from committing it.

What is the unpardonable sin?
The truth be told not many people understand this study is one which many pastors/preachers have twisted and made the scriptures to say what it was not meant to say. The unpardonable sin quite frankly is the sin that cannot be forgiven.

How is it committed
It is not because of the magnitude of the sin why it cannot be forgiven, but the state that the individual has reached when that sin is committed.

I am hoping that after today we shall have a clearer understanding of what this sin is.

Lets up pray
Before we begin it is important to establish a couple of things

God is not interested in stagnant relationships. In other words we should be growing in faith grace etc everyday.

Because of that we are either getting closer to Him or getting farther from Him. There is no such thing as a stationary Christian. The Christian is either in forward motion or backward motion.

This brings us to our scripture text. Jesus had been pleading long with the Pharisees. He had utilized every method at his disposal, to help them recognize their need for him; and every time they met him with rejection. On this particular occasion their rejection went too far.

What took place here is what is mentioned in
1 tim 4:2  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Their consciences had been pricked at its core. Sensing the people leaving from them and gravitating to Jesus, even feeling the Savior’s pull at their own hearts they blurt out

He is a evil and the spirit by which he is working is also devilish.

heb  6:4   For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
6:5   And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6:6   If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put [him] to an open shame.

Having your conscience seared with a hot iron, therefore cannot hear the Holy Ghost prompting any more. Once you cannot hear the Holy Ghost prompting then you cannot turn to God where there  is forgiveness.

How will I know if I have committed that act?

  1. Heb 10:26… The living dead…walking alive but dead

  1. Ex. 1 Judas: he was alive but his probation was closed.

  1. Saul: again alive but probation closed.

  1. Man of God mentioned in 1 Kings 13:1-32 who was told not to turn back: Although most times God is patient with the sinner. Sometimes swift judgement is brought upon the disobedient.

  1. Ananias & Sapphire: These were guilty of a grave sin of telling a lie on the Holy Spirit. On the day of Pentecost saying that the Holy Spirit had moved them to do something when He had not.

  1. Blasphemy of the Holy Ghost & The power of the tongue: The ability to say something and as a result of it. Be not admitted into the gates of heaven. You can speak yourself out of the kingdom. Be careful how you entertain conversation of the Holy Spirit.  It is a topic upon which we should scarcely enter, because not much has been given I n scripture, and if we say something wrong, it could cost us our salvation.

Appeal
It is important to understand that God has given us many opportunities to improve. If we have forfeited or failed to convert these moments it is indeed sin.  We are on repentant ground now, and the Holy Spirit has pricked our heart. Telling us that there is a mighty work to do, and the Lord has chosen you to be co-laborers with Him.

Heb 6:1   Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
6:2   Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
6:3   And this will we do, if God permit.

Let us move on to perfection
Not yielding our members to sin but unto God in righteousness so that we may never be numbered among those.

You see we are expert at pointing the finger at our neighbors the Sun worshippers, not recognizing that we are guilty of the very same transgressions and are in greater danger of losing out on the kingdom because we are so near to the Truth/Christ

Let us grow!!!!
